How to make Veg Momos Recipe or dim sum
The recipe has divided this post into 4 main parts.- Step 1 – Making the dough
- Step 2 – Making veggie stuffing
- Step 3 – Shaping momos
- Step 4 – Steaming veg momos
Step 1 – Making the dough
- Mix the maida, salt, and oil with your hands first to make a crumbly mix.
- Now add a little water at a time until you have a medium dough. It must be neither too harsh nor too soft. Knead for around 7-8 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp towel and set it aside for an hour.
Step 2 – Making veggie stuffing
- Heat oil in a pan, add garlic, ginger, onions, and sauté until golden brown with a pinch of salt.
- Add the capsicum, cabbage, carrots, spring onion greens, and sauté on high flame for 2-3 mins.
- Add the soya sauce, chili sauce, vinegar. Mix and cook. Cool mix at room temp before stuffing.
Step 3 – Shaping momos, method
- Remove the towel after an hour and knead the dough for 2-3 minutes. Divide the dough into tiny balls of similar size.
- Roll each ball into a thin circle with thin edges. Place around a tbsp of filling in the center of each circle and then pinch edges to form a Momo as shown.
- Make a complete of 6-7 using this method. Meanwhile, get ready for steaming the Veg Momos Recipe.
Step 4 – Steaming veg momos
- Grease a steamer, Place momos on it after heating it for 5 minutes.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the outer dough becomes transparent and cooked. If a toothpick inserted into one of these comes out clean, the momos are done.
- Start pleating & serve hot vegetable momos with some chutney / any sauce of your choice.
Veg Momos Recipe
These are popular street food in northern parts of India. These are also known as Dim Sum and are dumplings made from flour with savory stuffing.
INGREDIENTS
Dough for momos
- 1 large cup maida
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Water as Needed
For stuffing
- 2 tbsp oil
- 7-8 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
- 1 tbsp ginger (finely chopped)
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 1 capsicum (finely chopped)
- 2 cup cabbage (finely chopped/shredded)
- 1 cup carrot (shredded)
- 1 cup spring onion greens (finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp dark soya sauce
- 1 tbsp green chili sauce (you can use red too)
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- add Salt to taste
